Electrolysis is the only form of PERMANENT hair removal recognized by the American Medical Association.  There are three modalities that can be used to eliminate unwanted hair, and all three are effective on all hair types - including coarse gray hair.   

The three modalities are defined as:  
Galvanic - The hair root is destroyed by chemical action
Thermolysis - The hair root is destroyed by heat production
Blend - a combination of the above.
